Data Translation

Close Transliteration

Translating between different brands of similar software (Word & Wordperfect, AutoCAD vs. MicroStation v8, etc.).  The purpose and use tends to be the same.  Simplest.

Functional Translation

Data sharing between groups of different function (Road Dept. and Bridge Dept.)

Stupification

Any process which drops some or all of the intelligence out of an object or model.  Some examples include:

Reverse Engineering

Taking incomplete information and filling in the blanks.  This is inexact process and tends to be time consuming.  It is especially wasteful when a previous step in the process drops relevant information (see stupification).
